Grand Rounds: A Case Study: How a Three Year Old Boy Saved the Day

Sunday, September 23, 2018, 8-9:30PM (Eastern), 7-8:30PM (Central), 6-7:30PM (Mountain), 5-6:30PM (Pacific)

Stewart Aledort, MD, CGP, FAGPA & Linda Levine, LICSW

This is a case of a man who has been in individual and group therapy for the last 22 years. While the patient has enjoyed several important professional milestones, very little had touched his emotional core. The birth of his partner’s grandson began to change his emotional matrix. The issue to be discussed is how much change is related to the therapy work, how much to happenstance, and how much to good luck? How did his early traumas affect his treatment and how did the added treatment of Brainspotting allow him to be invested with his grandson and the group?

Participation for members is free. Participation for nonmembers is $45.00. 1.5 CE credits are available at $22.50 for members or $45.00 for nonmembers.

Douglas Braun-Harvey, MFT

Groups expect leaders to initiate and facilitate discussions about sex. Leaders unwittingly hinder this expectation. This event proposes six principles of sexual health and group leader sexual health conversation skills to build leader confidence and willingness to explore and deepen each group member's personal vision for sexual health.

Participation for members is free. Participation for nonmembers is $45.00. 1.5 CE credits are available at $22.50 for members or $45.00 for nonmembers.

This presentation will explore the interface between regressive pulls within the group leader and personal history, group dynamics, and the inherent challenges tied to the management of multiple transferences. Several clinical examples will be presented illustrating the unique opportunities for working with countertransference phenomena in a manner that leads to restorative solutions for both the therapist and the group.
