Beginning a New Group-Steps to Prepare Leader & Patients

Open to participants with less than four years of group psychotherapy experience

 

Starting a group can be an exciting and anxiety-provoking experience! Important steps to consider: patient outreach and preparation, contract, and early group predictable problems. Support for the leader, ways of handling patient criticism, early dropouts and how to bolster one's sense of ability in leading groups will be addressed.

Learning Objectives:

The attendee will be able to:

1. Identify important steps to consider in patient preparation for group.

2. State the importance of the contract for a successful group.

3. Explain the importance of Leader having a support system in place.
