Hypnosis
for Treating the Chemically Dependent Inpatient Group

This session will
present the therapist’s use of hypnosis with an inpatient chemically
dependent process psychotherapy group to prevent relapse. A brief
introduction of hypnosis with chemical dependency research, a
description of the cognitive behavioral psychoeducation, and
processing of the clients’ imagery will be given. A demonstration
will be provided.

Objectives:
The attendee will
be able to:
1. Describe the
history of using hypnosis in drug and alcohol treatment.
2. Define the
cognitive behavioral psychoeducation required to re-frame cognitive
distortions associated with chemical dependency.
3. Describe a
self-hypnosis relapse prevention approach using standardized
self-hypnosis protocols to help reduce and control the triggers and
affective states associated with relapse.
