This presentation
will consider the treatment of severely disturbed adults in a
psychoanalytic therapeutic community. Descriptions will be given of
how anxieties, originating in either patient or staff groups, are
registered and dealt with at both community-wide and small group
levels.
Learning
Objectives:
The attendee will
be able to:
1. Evaluate
unconscious projective processes that occur in a therapeutic
community.
2. Formulate
interventions that apply to community groups and small groups of
patients who operate at primitive levels of mental functioning.
3. Create a
context of receptivity for interpretations in a small process group
using the "narrative" and "characters" introduced by the group.
