Group Psychotherapy in the Digital Age: An Exploration of Possibilities

Chairs:

Lisa Friedman, Ph.D., Principal, Enterprise Development Group, Palo Alto, California

Herman Gyr, Ph.D., Principal, Enterprise Development Group,

Palo Alto, California

The information revolution is on. Enabled by digital information technology people are experiencing themselves and interacting with others in entirely new ways. Participants will be invited to explore the implications of the "digitally enabled" patient on the therapeutic work. The workshop is purely exploratory. Starting with a case presentation of the profound transformation experienced by a global media enterprise, a discreet set of propositions will be developed that will act as catalyst for conversation.

Demonstration, experiential, didactic, sharing or work experiences

Learning Objectives:

The attendee will be able to:

1. Clearly identify new patient expectations and behaviors that derive from the use of information technology.

2. Evaluate the impact from digital technology on the patient.

3. Prescribe possible alternative tasks for the digitally enabled patient.

4. Design interventions that make full use of the shifting capabilities

and experiences of digitally-enabled patients.
