Talking About Talking About Sex: Countertransference, Diversity, and Process

Exploration of sexual content and meaning are related to the therapists’ comfort

level and the groups feelings of safety.  This workshop will explore therapists’

countertransference in response to gender and sexual orientation.  Socio-cultural taboos and the distinction between intimacy and sexuality will be addressed.

 

Learning Objectives:

The attendee will be able to:

1. Identify three perspectives on sexual feelings in group psychotherapy.

2. Review the diversity of views about sexuality.

3. Explain issues of safety and trust-related to sexual exploration in group.

4. Discuss their own countertransference feelings related to the exploration of sexuality is group psychotherapy.
