Intensive Cognitive Behavioral Group Therapy for Sever Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

This presentation describes an intensive cognitive behavioral group therapy (CBGT) for severe obsessive-compulsive disorder and other anxiety disorders.  The CBGT is delivered within the context of a therapeutic milieu based on cognitive-behavioral principles.  Case illustrations are used to highlight some of the CBGT interventions and preliminary efficacy data is presented.

Learning Objectives:

The attendee will be able to:

1. Identify key features of effective Cognitive Behavioral Group Therapy.

2. Describe habituation, hierarchy and exposure-response prevention as it is utilized in the treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

3. Express ways that group therapy may enhance the efficacy of exposure and response prevention.
