Personality Disorders Go to the Movies

Patients with
personality disorders populate our groups, energize them, and can
destroy them.
This workshop will focus on the identification and group treatment
of such patients, especially those with “dramatic/erratic”
disorders. Video clips illustrating personality disorders will
include segments from All About Eve, Fatal Attraction, Citizen Kane,
A Streetcar Named Desire, The Sopranos, and others. (Rated “R”)

Objectives:
The attendee will
be able to:
1. Define
personality disorders utilizing DSM-IV.
2. Indicate how
Cluster A, B, and C disorders differ.
3. Distinguish
among disorders within Cluster B (i.e., “dramatic/erratic”).
4. Identify
indications and contraindications for treating such patients.
5. Describe common
countertransference reactions when treating personality disordered
patients.
