Fathers
and Daughters: The Promise of Intimacy

Using the
perspective of the group psychotherapist, this open session offers
an understanding and appreciation of the development of
psychotherapy, and clarifies five major orientations and that inform
the psychotherapist: group-as-a-whole theory; ego psychology/object
relations theory; self psychology; interpersonal group
psychotherapy; and trauma theory/addiction medicine. The presenter
will use didactic material, discussion, and clinical vignettes, as
well as an experiential small group, when the presenter will suggest
interventions from each orientation.
Learning
Objectives:
The attendee will
be able to:
1. Have an
historical perspective of the development of psychotherapy.
2. Understand the
five major theoretical orientations that have heavily impacted the
field of psychotherapy and how they inform the group
psychotherapist, and be able to distinguish interventions from each.
3. Apply
interventions from each orientation to his or her clinical work.
