"En Espanol": Group Psychotherapy with Hispanic Clients

This course is a one hour presentation of the "know how" key issues when working in group Psychotherapy with Hispanic population. The presentation will address cultural competence and techniques to overcome the challenges of the therapy with this very unique ethnic group.

 

Learning Objectives:

The attendee will be able to:

1. Understand the unique cultural characteristics of the Hispanics that plays an important role in the formation and maintenance of the psychotherapy groups in this population.

2. Identify the challenges in the boundary setting and to learn how to manage them in order to achieve a successful group experience with Hispanic groups.

3. Recognize the “desirable” therapist’s traits when conducting culturally competent group psychotherapy with Hispanics.

4. Determine the value of the co-therapy when working with Hispanic groups.
