Integrative Approaches to Cultivating Mentalization with Professionals in Psychiatric Treatment

At risk of oversimplification, mentalization is the process of identifying mental states in one's self and others. This didactic and experiential workshop explains the theory, addresses specific challenges in treating professionals hospitalized for psychiatric illnesses, substance abuse and personality disorders, and introduces attendees to an integrative use of groups in fostering the development of mentalization.

Learning Objectives:

The attendee will be able to:

1. Demonstrate comprehension of Mentalization.

2. Identify special concerns in providing care for professionals with psychiatric illness.

3. Integrate treatment modalities to promote Mentalization in clients.
