A dramatic
reading of the play 'Rounding Third' by Richard Dresser will
illustrate the dynamic tension between the competitive and
affiliative dimensions of group life, including within the group
leader, between co-leaders and amongst members. A post-performance
discussion and a group exercise will allow participants to
experientially explore the competitive-affiliative dialectic in
their own approach to group leadership.
Learning
Objectives:
The attendee will
be able to:
1.Analyze behaviors and relatedness within group life from the
perspective of the competitive/affiliative dialectic.
2. Formulate strategies to resolve group member ambivalence towards
either competitive or affiliative dimensions.
3. Extrapolate relational principles from the play's dramatic action
and apply to group psychotherapy.
