The Integrity of Here: Clinical Musings on the Comings and Goings in Groups

This presentation explores the elements of "integrity" and how we can overlay these ideas onto our psychodynamic groups. The integrity of the group-as-a-whole, the members and the therapist will be considered utilizing Fonagy et al's theory of mentalization. Various 'dis-integrations' (especially around members' entering and terminating) will be emphasized.

Learning Objectives:

The attendee will be able to:

1. Name the 3 elements of integrity that pertain to group process
2. Discuss how the theory of mentalization can help explain the power of group to develop affect regulation skills and better integration of self
3. Identify the options open to a group leader to interpret/understand the dynamics around the dis-integration and repair cycles in psychodynamic groups.
