Locker Room Power: Group Therapy Principles in a Non-Traditional Setting

Athletic teams are subject to the expected internal forces of group life as well as tremendous external forces. Collective mood and interpersonal mood processes present on-going challenges. The regulation of affect is essential to effective team performance. This workshop will explore the use of group therapy techniques to help athletic teams develop the ability to regulate affect.

Learning Objectives:

The attendee will be able to:
1. Identify the stages of team life.
2. Describe the role affect plays in team functioning.
3. List several exercises that are useful in helping teams develop their ability to regulate affect.
