Leading Psychoeducational Groups

Certified Group Psychotherapists

Emphasized in the workshop are practical strategies and techniques leaders can use to effectively facilitate psychoeducational groups in a variety of settings.  Presented will be fundamentals for planning, facilitating and evaluating these groups in a format that will use a variety of teaching and learning methods as models.  Information about research findings on the efficacy of psychoeducational groups for a wide range of issues, concerns, condition and diseases will also be included.

Learning Objectives:

The attendee will be able to:
1. List the steps in planning a psychoeducational group.

2. Discuss how group stages, group dynamics and therapeutic factors are similar and different for psychoeducational and clinical groups.

3. Compare the leader's roles in psychoeducational, other non-clinical groups, and clinical groups.

4. Identify how group plans can be modified for the target audience, such as children, adolescents and adults.
