Preventing Burnout: Countertransference with Chronic and Terminal Illness

This workshop will explore the use of induced feelings in working with AIDS, heart disease, cancer and other chronic and terminal illnesses.  One of the most difficult tasks is for the group analyst to understand and tolerate the range of feelings that are evoked. Participants will examine the feelings induced in them to facilitate the group process.  Issues of burnout will also be explored.

Learning Objectives:

The attendee will be able to:

1. Identify subjective and objective countertransference.
2. Experience techniques to use and tolerate countertransference.
3. Describe the most common countertransference reactions with this population.
