An
Introduction to Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy: A Blending of
Attachment Theory and Systems Work
Chair:
Karen
Shore, Ph.D., CGP, Private Practice, Santa Monica,
California
Emotionally
Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) combines Attachment and Systems
Theories, conceiving of adult love as an attachment bond. The
couple's difficulties are reframed as cycles of emotions and
behaviors that are driven by perceived threats to that bond. The
ability of EFT to heal distressed couples is supported by research.
