Athletic Teams as a Community

Athletic teams are subject to the expected internal forces of group life as well as tremendous external forces. Collective mood and interpersonal mood process present on-going challenges for coaches and team members. This workshop will explore the use of group therapy techniques to help athletic teams develop the ability to regulate affect which, in turn, enhances the likelihood of successful performance.

The attendee will be able to:

1. Describe the stages of team/group life.

2. Specify the importance of team cohesion to performance.

3. Understand the team dynamics involved in regulation of mood.
