"Three Faces of Community: From Selfobject through Intersubjectivity to Mutual Recognition

Chairs:

Mary Dluhy, M.S.W., CGP, FAGPA, Private Practice, Washington, DC

MaryAnn P. Dubner, Ph.D., CGP, Private Practice, Bethesda, Maryland

Rosemary A. Segalla, Ph.D., CGP, Private Practice, Washington, DC

This workshop will explore group development using relational principles; the selfobject (mirroring, twinship), the intersubjective (mutual influence), and the relational (mutual recognition). These "positions" oscillate within the individual and in the group-as-a-whole, not representing a developmental progression, but shaping the kind of community operating within the group.

Learning Objectives:

The attendee will be able to:

l. Define three relational positions: selfobject, intersubjective, mutual recognition.

2. Identify signals which demonstrate the relational position in the group.
