Using the Power of the
Moment in Understanding the Past: A Modern Analytic Approach
Chair:
Gail A. Brown, M.A., CGP,
Director of Academic Training, The Center for Group Studies, New
York, NY
Open to participants with less than four years of group
psychotherapy experience.
This workshop demonstrates the effectiveness of a 'here and now'
approach to group by emphasizing the relationships of group members
in the present moment. Combining the techniques of bridging and
immediacy, we will study how members re-live and re-create their
historical patterns in the moment. Methods of formulating and timing
of maturational interventions are explored.

Learning Objectives:
The attendee will be able to:
1. Differentiate authentic 'in the moment' feelings from the often
subtle resistances of past and future references
2. Utilize specific clinical techniques (i.e.. bridging), to
establish immediacy
3. Identify specific resistances to immediacy
