Schema focused/lifetrap group therapy is an innovative way to treat
patients with longstanding mood disorders and character pathology.
Group members receive: 1)a powerful conceptualization for patient
problems that defines why they are "stuck" 2)the use of brain
research to understand how to develop a new relationship with
anxiety which is necessary for change 3)an outline of strategies to
change dysfunctional schemas.
didactic-sharing of work experiences-experiential-demonstration
Learning Objectives:
The attendee will be able to:
1.
Provide patients a meaningful conceptualization for their
dysfunction
2.
Help patients understand why prior change efforts have failed
3.
Help patient understand the role of fear/arousal and develop a new
relationship with anxiety
4.
Teach patients how use concepts such as the need to align "knowing
and believing" and challenging the "uncomfortable comfortable" to
drive change.
