GPF Committees

  • Development Committee. This committee is responsible for raising the annual General Fund income of the Foundation as well as its endowment funds. Other responsibilities include monitoring the General Fund and all contributions, seeking opportunities to receive distinguished gifts by AGPA members and outside corporations, and coordination of efforts with the Foundation's development counsel.

  • Education Committee. This committee's main concern is supporting professional development through continuing education, training and collegial interaction. The members of this committee coordinate GPF sponsored activities of the AGPA Annual Meeting in cooperation with the AGPA Conference Committee and the Local Annual Meeting Task Force. The committee members oversee the Mitchell Hochberg Public Education Fund and the S. R. Slavson Lecture Fund.

  • Nominating Committee. The members of this committee are responsible for the slating of candidates for the Chair and Vice-Chair positions for the Foundation Board of Directors. This committee is formed in November of odd years and makes its recommendations to the Board in February of the following year.

  • Scholarships and Awards Committee. This committee coordinates with Special Funds the selection of qualified candidates to receive funding and recognition as well as the annual solicitation for income, expense plans and endowment goals. The committee members oversee: the Alonso Award Fund, the Donald T. Brown Memorial Fund, the Durkin-Glatzer Scholarship Fund, International Scholarships, and the Aaron Stein Memorial Fund.

  • Search Committee. This committee is composed of the AGPA President-Elect, two elected members from AGPA Board of Directors, and two elected members from the GPF Board of Directors. Formed every two years in odd years, this committee is charged with recommending persons with diverse skills and experience to participate on the GPF Board of Directors.

  • Study Grants Committee. This committee is responsible for enhancing the profession's and public's awareness of the value of groups, through supporting and initiating research, promoting the collection, interpretation and dissemination of information on group methods and group psychotherapy, and by monitoring legislative activity. This committee oversees the Research Fund.

GPF Special Funds

All Special Fund subcommittee members participate in formulating annual giving campaign strategies, gift solicitations, and the compilation of lists of donors and other funding sources.

  • Alonso Award. Awards creative thinking in psychodynamic group theory. Entries include: doctoral dissertations, videos, published papers or other creative research. Committee members will consider submissions for possible funding.

  • Donald T. Brown Memorial Fund. Provides scholarships to attend the AGPA Annual Meeting or the meeting of the Northern California Group Psychotherapy Society. Committee members solicit and review scholarship applications.

  • Durkin-Glatzer Scholarship Fund. Provides an opportunity for women entering or re-entering the field of group psychotherapy to receive support for training at the AGPA Annual Meeting. Committee members solicit and review scholarship applications. The fund's activities are administered by the AGPA Women on Group Psychotherapy Special Interest Group.

  • Research Fund. Develops and supports specific research projects to evaluate the effectiveness of group treatments for a wide range of mental health issues.

  • Mitchell Hochberg Memorial Public Education Fund. Provides underwriting for public educational programs. Committee members will consider projects for possible funding.

  • S.R. Slavson Memorial Lectureship Fund. Provides grants to local and regional group psychotherapy societies, in addition to AGPA for its plenary lectures. The committee reviews applications from Affiliate Societies for funding. The fund's activities are administered by the AGPA Affiliate Societies Assembly.

  • Aaron Stein Memorial Fund. Presents an annual award to an individual or organization in the local area of the Annual Meeting for work in an innovative program demonstrating creative uses of group theory or technique. Committee members solicit and review candidates for funding selection.
